Radical Exclusions: A Female Prison World

June 23 to July 13, 2017

2 Floor Hall, CES | Alta

Framework

The context of the production of the knowledge of modern science, the metonymic reason with its monocultures, especially that of social classification, has placed, in the waiting room of the Time of Still, all those considered subalterns, or non-humans. Epistemologies of the South and Postcolonial Feminist Studies challenge us to construct counter-hegemonic knowledge from the unseen, the unheard, the misinterpreted, those who have suffered the oppressions caused by capitalism, colonialism and patriarchy. And this implies a break with the sexist, anthropocentric, north-centric matrix thinking that has dominated the unified thinking of modern science. The feminine-subject is one of the subaltern groups, which in the context of colonial-sexist production has been represented as someone without history, without speech, and sometimes residing in the deepest obscurity.

In this context, this photography exhibition entitled: "Radical Exclusions: A female prison world", produced within the framework of the doctoral research of the curator of the exhibition, aims to demonstrate, from the perspective of women in subalternised conditions of seclusion in a Brazilian feminine penitentiary, how they construct counter-hegemonic knowledge of resistance, be it by actions or attitudes, explicit or not, in the intersubjective bonds of sociability, in spaces converted in the dehumanisation of the other. The exhibition expresses much of what has been the struggle of women from the epistemic and ontological point of view, which the subalterns have been moving towards entering the political arena of scientific and cultural knowledge in the spaces of circulation of these productions, using their own masks and vowels, deprovincializing, depatrialising and decolonising the construction of scientific knowledge.
