The crisis of the Rule of Law and legal-political instability in the Latin American presidential systems

Abstract

The colloquium will have as its main theme the crisis of the Rule of Law and the legal-political instability in the presidential systems in Latin America. Among other pressing issues for contemporary Latin American policy, the colloquium will also address the principle of separation of powers; the systems of government in modern constitutions; the structural and operational weaknesses of the presidential model; political instability in Brazil and Latin America.

Bio notes

José Eduardo Cardozo graduated in law in 1981 from PUC-SP, where he also completed a master's degree in 1993 and a Ph.D., which began in 1994 under the supervision of Professor Celso Antônio Bandeira de Mello. He was Minister of Justice (2011-2016) and Federal MP (2003-2011). He currently holds a Ph.D. from the University of Salamanca - Spain. He is a Public Prosecutor of the Municipality of São Paulo and a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo.

Isabel Maria Freitas Valente.Ph.D. in Contemporary Higher Studies, postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century at the University of Coimbra - CEIS20, Member of Team Europe of the European Commission and Executive Director of the Scientific Journal Debater a Europa. She has developed research in the area of Contemporary History (20th century) and in the area of European Studies (history of the outermost regions, Portugal's European integration process).


Sidney Jard da Silva.Professor of the Center for Engineering, Modeling and Applied Social Sciences of the Federal University of ABC (CECS/UFABC). Post-doctoral researcher in Sociology at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES-UC). Ph.D. and MA in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (USP),  doctoral exchange student degree from the Department of Political Science of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Bachelor in Social Sciences from the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH/USP) and BA from the Faculty of Education (FE/USP). He was coordinator of the State and Public Policy thematic area of the Brazilian Association of Political Science (ABCP). He joined the pro tempore team of UFABC.
